Good morning!

We're webcasting today, so if you can sneak in video take a look at : http://futureofmusic.org/events/future-music-policy-summit-2009

Intro Greg Kot, moderator, author of Ripped
"Every artist is DIY, no matter who you are." Examples: Dan Deacon causing a near riot at the Pitchfork fest, Trent Reznor's direct to fans album 1.7 million dollars in one week. "This is the central change of the past ten years." Oops, Mac McCaughan was in Portastatic, not Portishead. If anyone needs a fact checker for early 90s indie rock/indiepop history, I think I know someone who can help.

Bertis Downs, REM. Took cassettes to NYC, didn't tour for some of the biggest records, Peter (Buck) has played on a few Merge Records.

If I had a printer I'd make a trivia contest tonight at the cocktail party to see who was paying attention.

I hope the webcasters get some shots of the ridiculously amazing gorgeous murals in this room. This photo is by ehpien on flickr, but it gives you a good idea of where we're at.
